August at Theta Data:

August brought several important updates across Theta Data, with a continued focus on making our platform more efficient, accessible, and useful for trading, research, and development workflows. Here is everything we launched in August:

Flat File Downloads Now Available

One of our most requested features launched this month. Pro Users can now access full-universe datasets for the previous 7 days through Terminal V3 and the Python Library. Flat file downloads provide a more efficient way to support large-scale research, backtesting, analytics, and data-ingestion workflows without managing complex request pipelines.

New LLM Python Guide

We released a new guide to help users build more reliable Python workflows with LLMs such as ChatGPT and Claude. The guide covers best practices for prompting, working with Theta Data endpoints, authentication, parameters, and data structures to help reduce debugging and improve AI-assisted development.

OPRA Extended Trading Hours Update

OPRA revised the implementation timeline for extended trading hours, with the new effective date currently TBD. Once implemented, OPRA is expected to support trading from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET for select symbols. We’ll continue to share updates as additional information becomes available.

Theta Data for Excel Updated to V3

Theta Data for Excel was updated to support Terminal V3, bringing the familiar Excel workflow to our latest architecture. Users can continue to access Theta Data directly in Microsoft Excel and incorporate market data into existing spreadsheets, models, and research workflows.

Thank you to everyone in the Theta Data community for your continued feedback and support throughout August. We’re excited to continue improving!
